Advantages: Price, Adverts, Information

Disadvantages: It weighs a ton and looks like a phone book

Computer Shopper is one of a select few publications that could qualify as the Computer Person's Bible.

Admittedly 2/3 of the magazine is solid adverts, but this is one of the advantages of a magazine of this type - you read the reviews of the products, you find the best price from a hefty selection of competing retailers. The magazine has a good reputation for reliable reviews and tests, and sensible, believable reviewers.

The core of the magazine is biased strongly towards PCs, but there are columns for most other platforms and interests, including Apple, Atari, Amiga, Linux etc.

As I continue to build up my knowledge of computers (even after 17 years, you're always learning new stuff) I find the letters pages with their variety of problems and resolutions, along with their hands-on style sections incredibly useful.

Overall a great mag, but possibly a bit too serious for some
