Advantages: none, none, Starts the fire

Disadvantages: Repeat information, no comparisons, EVERYTHING is great

Computer Video magazine has been around a while and has become extremely staid.

CV does reviews on video editing products but once thses same product hit the consumer the problems show up - often either totally missed by CV or failed to mention in case they offend a software supplier.

The magazine carries a lot of repeated information in it's back pages - around 20 pages of the same stuff each month in a 100 page magazine! Information isn't always uptodate - with names that no longer apply and software that can't be found.

The articles (beginner "how to" stuff) are often strung out over 3 issues and on occassions 4. Not at all helpful for a beginner who needs the information two days after reading the article!

The DV Doctor Computer Video Forum has a moderator who is extremely rude to any who challenge him when he's wrong. He deletes articles on his own whim without explanation, threatens without reason and picks "fights" to example others. The modorator has ridiculed beginners for asking a question and other contributors have had to step in to deal with the embarrasment. The forum is treated as a personal Feifdom of the main moderator and little is seen of the other 3. To survive on this site you have to cowtow to Bob Crabtree. many of the contributor just count there numbers (number of postings) and lack a huge amount of experience. Many contributor have left the Forum site or only frequent it occassionally.

The magazine doesn't contain any extra information that can't be obtained from the web - simply by using Google.com.

The Forum site isn't a specialist site and cant deal with questions related to specific software - for that the product Forums are best suited or visit ones like WWUG.com . There are also better Video sites around with better contributors and certainly a more polite and well mannered moderator.

Save your money and leave the Computer ma
gazine in the shop.
