Advantages: lots of information
Disadvantages: none
In my opinion, Computer-Active is the best value for money computer magazine on the market, it retails for a mere £1.20, and for this, you get roughly 90 pages of quality content. The magazine covers a wide spectrum of topics. The first few pages are normally dedicated to all the latest computer, and Internet news. Such as which ISP's are going under, and the latest on Napster and MP3's in general, plus all the other important news. There is a section called re-active, this covers issues such as readers letters, solving computer problems, competitions and people who have been ripped off, where the magazine has helped them to get justice. There is a section called on-test this covers quite a lot for example all the latest game, and CD-ROMs, the best buys, download reviews, and the hottest products out there. Computer-Active also keeps you up to date with all the latest technology, such as the latest gadgets. There is also a section dedicated to the web, every issue they list the best sites for you to visit. My favourite section is the web workshops, every issue they publish about six workshops, these work shops tell you how to do things with your computer, such as image editing, making music, getting your web site up and running, downloading, email, and much more. I have found these sections invaluable, as I'm a bit of a beginner. The magazine comes out every fortnight, it contains, an equal quantity of everything computer related which is rare with computer magazines. The magazine does have adverts, but only a few, which are of interest, like printer cartridges. I would definitely recommend this magazine if you are a beginner, or just like a bit more variety.

mcrouch - 16/06/01 Good op. I agree its excellent for beginners, the jargon-free approach is valuable and it makes for an interesting read now and again for experienced PC-ers. I did find as a regular user that it tended to repeat itself after a while but then perhaps all computer mags do to some extent. |
