Like many of you I am an avid computer magazine reader. I can’t resist when out shopping in town popping in to WH Smiths and you can usually bet I will come out with a pc mag or two. The problem is though the price of theses magazines, why are they so expensive to buy? I don’t have a great deal of disposable income to play with and I have to juggle the pennies if I want to buy more than one. At £4.99 for many of the run of the mill mags I think that this price is with out doubt extortionate. Don’t the publishers make enough on the advertising in these mags to keep the price down, I mean lets be fair there are enough of the dam adverts in them and all selling the same product only differing brands. Its not as though these £4.99 reads are any better than the £1.20 computer active charge, and in my humble opinion Computer Active is a much more informative read. But while Joe public with money burning a hole in his pocket continue to pay these hipped prices, students, un-employed, and low income brackets will have to continue to juggle there dosh so has to educate themselves in the ever changing world of Personal Computing.

Andy105 - 17/06/01 I've stopped buying mags now. I get my PC Pro on subscription, but doubt if I'll renew. I used to use them to review new products but do this on the net now. The only useful features are the patches on the coverdisks as the Windows 2000 one took hours to download! |
