Computeractive:
... spread, they aren't held together anymore as the staples remain with the rest of the magazine.
Although the title of the magazine is 'Computer' Active some sections do seem to focus on consumer law like the DSR (Distance Selling Regulations i.e. buying online). In these sections, readers write in and ask for advice on what to do when they experience problems with a service or product so CA go 'Watchdog' mode and c... PC Utilities ... issue, and there are accompanying screehshots to help you along the way. The reviews are broad and wide ranging from pc maintanence to getting the most of your pc. Cover Disc---- There is a cover disc provided and this is packed full of software programs for you to use. Many are freeware and available to download if you search for it on Google, but they do have the occasional full version that would cost money to buy in the shops. That said in my opinion the CD isn't very good as most of the stuff on there is available for free on the net via the programmers website. Then these products are graded with a five star system and then an overall winner is picked at the end of the labs piece. The reviews are very in depth but the labs sections seem repetitive. It always seem to be the same items being compared, rarely are computer speakers compared, keyboards, mice etc. It always seems to be HD and printers as... Computer Shopper ... comes with the best price and spec of the product. The reviews are fair and unbiased and aren't written in a language that only geeks would understand. There are also sections that recommend a minimum base spec PC, scanner, printer etc. for people who are unsure what they should be getting for their budget. The magazine contains a lab section, which involves reviewing many of the same product (different DVD drives, hard discs) and then giving the overall rating and recommendation. THe reviews are very detailed including benchmarking tests and numerical analysis (where possible). The cover disc is packed full of excellent software from game demos to fully funcitonal...
