Computer Shopper ... Shopper is published by Dennis Publishing and is an excellent product. Every issue has over a hundred different reviews of products from new PCs to mice, keyboards, speakers and software. Each major review is detailed and comes with the best price and spec of the product. The reviews are fair and unbiased and aren t written in a language that only geeks would understand. There are also sections that recommend a minimum base spec PC, scanner, printer etc. for people who are unsure what they should be getting for their budget. Web User ... I’m honest, I don’t usually do magazines. I always think that those endless rows of glossies that you see adorning the shelves of WH Smith are just a license to print money. There’s usually everything from magazines for puppet enthusiasts to the riveting “Crochet Monthly” and sometimes the “Bank of England” weekly, which may *well* be a license to print money – who knows? However, I’ve recently bucked the trend apart from having to forcibly buy “Mizz” for my teenage daughter (she bullies me, y know) and the Spongebob magazine/comic for my 10-year-old son. PC Plus ... has updated itself in the December 2005 edition due to increased competition in it s market sector. The magazine seems to be aimed at IT professionals and people who have more intermediate computer knowledge i.e. those that know the difference between an operating system and an office suite. Accompanying CD/DVD- Each issue the magazine has a CD edition and a DVD edition containing software. The DVD edition is about £2 more expensive but contains more software. The software is a mixture of trial programs e.g. Dreamweaver, copies of commercial programs for home use e.g. ZoneAlarm and open source software e.g. The Gimp.
