Conservative HEARTLAND, the Conservative Party's magazine (Conservative Heartland)
Advantages: The occasional good article Disadvantages: The appeal is mainly to the party faithful rather than the floating voter
An insight into the Tory mind is given by reading this organ. The front cover refers to EDUCATION, one of the vote-winning areas for the Tories! Inside you can read about Tory plans to cut bullying and bureaucracy in our schools (changed days from when Maggie Thatcher was closing grammar schools). An article by the Shadow Secretary of State for Education actually sounds radical and sensible and makes Labour policies sound conservative and out of date! The back cover of the magazine is an advert appealing to the sort of people who charter quite large yachts. So, is the Tory Party still the party of the very rich? Page nine has an advert for Stringfellows and refers to 100 beautiful angels and GoGos. So , is the Tory Party still the party of slightly naughty fun? An attractive lady called Nadra Ahmed appears on page 19 but Section 28 is praised on page 4 and the Scottish Parliament is attacked on page 7. So, is the Tory Party the party of minorities? There seem to be mixed signals. The magazine costs £2.50 and I suspect would only appeal to dedicated supporters of the Conservative Party. Summary: |
