Advantages: Good variety, uplifting tone

Disadvantages: Annoying to subscribe to, as you don't get the free gifts

Cosmpolitan is, in my opinion, the best magazine for women. It's always got a great selection of articles, that deal with everything that's important for older teenage girls and for twenty or thirty-something women, such as how to get ahead in your careers, where to go travelling, how to maintain happy relationships, how to deal with loss, etc. There are also always articles covering issues such as politics, women's rights, health, safety, etc. Plus there's usually interesting real-life stories, and lots of confidence boosting articles encouraging you to be yourself and telling you how great you are!

Cosmo also has the best fashion and beauty pages in any magazine, with much of the clothing actually in a normal person's budget, rather than the £3000 outfits that some magazines show.

Having regularly read Glamour, Marie Claire, New Woman, B and Company, I have to say I think Cosmo has the best range of well-written and relevant articles (with Glamour coming a close second). I've had a subscription to Cosmo for 2 years and it's been well worth the money (and has always been delivered on time!)

I would say however that if you are not interested in sexual positions and techniques you may find some parts of the magazine irrelevant to you (and as such it is also perhaps not the best magazine for younger girls).

The only downside to Cosmo is the fact that when you subscribe to it, you miss out on the free gifts that sometimes come with the magazine. For example, there is often a free novel, CD, item of make-up or similar gift that comes with the magazine when you buy it from the shop. But when Cosmo is mailed to you, they don't include the gift. Instead they include a special offer every month, but this is usually something such as jewellery that you have to send away for and pay for postage, or a money-off coupon for something that you have to spend money on in the first place (eg. 10% off a haircut). This kind of thing doesn't appeal to me as much as a free gift...and at times I've even been tempted to buy the mag again in a shop, even though I already have a copy, just to get the free book etc.

So 5 stars for the magazine, minus 1 for the annoyances that come with subscribing.
