~*~ Cosmopolitan ~*~

Cosmopolitan is an international womens monthly glossy magazine. It was first published in the US in 1886 (now thats what I call a long running magazine!) although it has changed a lot since then - you definitely wouldn't have found the sort of content in this magazine now back then!

'Cosmo' has readers in over 100 different countries and is sold in 34 languages, and has been talked about in many popular TV shows and movies including Will and Grace, Legally Blonde and The O.C.

~*~ The content ~*~

Cosmopolitan is a womens monthly magazine and covers a variety of different issues every month. Included each month is 'Cosmo News' - which covers light hearted current affairs and readers letters, celebrity gossip and news and real life stories. Love, sex and relationships is a large part of this magazines content, with some quite controversial topics often being covered - if you are easily embarrased, this may not be the magazine for you!

~*~ This months content ~*~

To give you an idea of the content, I'm going to talk you through July's issue...

Page 1- 15 - Contents page and adverts - Thats a lot of advert space! Had never realised that before! Adverts are for expensive brands such as Chanel and Valentino perfume.

15 - 25 - 'Cosmo news' and 6 pages of adverts - Readers letters, new products on the market and new fashions are the main subjects on these pages.

26 - 'Shameful seductions' - Stories of readers seduction attempts gone wrong!

27 - Full page advert

28 - 'Most wanted' - nail colour, lipstick and eye shadow, followed by 2 pages of adverts

31 - Eva Mendes article talking about what makes her happy

** Any pages from now on not numbered are adverts!

33 - Article on and promoting kaftans

36 - Sex and the single girl column - very similar to Carrie's sex and the city column, one of my favourite reads!

38 - 'Lust haves' - accessories promotion

41 - Slimming pills article

43-44 - Real life story - girl who got attacked whilst out shopping

46-48 - Interview with Cameron Diaz

50 & 52 - 'Women we love' - successful female celebrities and interview with James Morrison.

54-58 - 'Secrets of sexually confident women' - how to improve your confidence in bed.

61-62 - Mens thoughts on contraception

65-66 - Article on girl-on-girl stalking

71 - 'The sex toy hiding in your handbag' - enough said...

72-74 - Hen vs. stag do's article

79-82 - Risks of holidays abroad - drinking too much, drinks mixed with antifreeze etc.

85 - Mini-break offer

87-89 - 'When your man drops a bombshell' - Reader stories

90-91 - 'Toxic colleagues' - e.g. your 'best friend' and 'miss perfect'.

93-99 - Real life stories

101-105 - Problem pages and life coaching

107-122 - Cosmo naked centerfold!

125-163 - Fashion pages

164-191 - Beauty pages

193 - Johnny Depp interview

195 - 'Cosmo living' guide to bbq's!

197-200 - Health and diet pages

203 - Article on Ibiza

205 - Horoscopes

207 - 217 - Adverts and job adverts

218 - 'Cosmo commandments' - 10 rules that only apply on screen.

~*~ Price and availability ~*~

Usual price £3.20, but July's edition was on special for £2 (with a free book!) They often do special offers for £2, which is not bad for a magazine that takes a good couple of hours to read from cover to cover.

Available everywhere really! Supermarkets, newsagents, Boots and Superdrug... Most magazine stockists stock this magazine.

~*~ The verdict ~*~

Having analysed every page of this magazine, I'm very surprised at the number of adverts it contains. Ok, so I knew it had quite a few, but almost a third of this magazine is advertisements of some sort which makes you feel a bit cheated! However, the magazine is, in my opinion, good quality, and I always read it from cover to cover. When I purchase cheaper magazines (you know what I mean, the ones with "I married a goat to save my mums life" as a cover story) I only end up reading about 10 pages or so and then getting bored. At full price, the magazine is a bit pricey but for £2 with a free book you can't really go wrong, so I would definitely recommend you snapping up this month's issue!

Overall, despite the high concentration of adverts, this remains one of my favourite reads!

Summary: A good one :)

Last year I got a coffee table book featuring articles from Cosmo from the 70s and 80s. Seems they are regurgitating the same stuff all these years later - LOL!

I used to love this years ago but it seemed to go downhill and I stopped buying it. Maybe I should treat myslef again, Susan
