Advantages: Coverage of nearly everything! Affordable fashion bits too
Disadvantages: Cost from shop, and more movie/music news please
A friend of mine used to read Cosmo back when we were in school. I didn't see the appeal and stuck with More! magazine.
Years later, I was looking for a mag for a flight, and spotted Cosmo in the airport newsagent. I think it probably had a freebie, so I bought it.
Now, I've just subscribed!
Why do I like Cosmo?
Well it's got a good mix of nearly everything. A few pages of fashion, tho not so many that you'd not bother reading half of the mag. A few pages of celebrities, but not so much that you get jaded. A few pages of TV and Movie bits. A few big interviews, a few articles of sex and relationships, and a handful of real-life stories.
They also use high-street fashion items in the whole magazine, so things you see on the models or celebs are affordable, not like some magazines which only use designer stuff.
The magazine is a monthly publication, and now comes in two sizes. The full size mag is the same size as all other mags, but they also do a 'handbag' size, which is about an A5 size that is designed to fit into your handbag, thus the name. Both magazines are identical in content and look, and cost. The only difference is the size. Oh, and when there are freebies, I've only seen them on the full sized mag, so thats something to bear in mind.
It is a little pricey, at £3.30 per magazine, but considering it's a monthly rather than a weekly, I suppose it's not so bad.
However, if you subscribe (as I've just done) you can have the smaller size delivered direct to your door for £12 a year (annual Direct Debit) or £15 for one off card payments. Bargain!
Tho I do enjoy Cosmo (as does my bloke) I would like to see a bit more coverage for new-release movies and music, but I guess being that the mags are put together way before publication (as they all are) I suppose they are restricted by time for the things they can cover. This doesn't wane my enjoyment of the magazine at all, but it's the only thing I could think that they could improve on for me personally.
Summary: I've grown up. I read Cosmo!

- 27/08/09 Seems like a real party girl magazine though. Every issue I see on the newstands are always containing sex articles and stuff. =O I didn't think women thought about it that much. |
