North-West Evening Mail: ... North West Evening Mail is printed in Barrow in Furness In Cumbria. It is a daily paper, Monday to Saturday and costs 32p I personally think it is very expensive for what you get in it, and it is mostly advertising. Something that particularly irritates me just lately is in the classified section, a huge quarter page ad offering people an advert to say that they have passed their driving test all for a pri...

janharper Evening News & Star
... thirty two pence this newspaper is very expensive (comparitively speaking!). I would even go so far as to call it an extravagance to buy it.It sometimes costs more than a penny a page. A penny a page for advertising is extortionate. There are usually around twenty four pages in each Evening News and many of these carry advertising or 'in-house' advertising for Bluechip Travel (owned by The Cumberland News Group). There is little news and the rest of the psper is made up of rehashed stories. For example a recent story told the tale of a man who wascseriously ill in hospital and his dog was allowed to visit him. The results were excellent. Now, three years lat...

janharper Cumbrian Gazette
... Cumbrian Gazette comes in two 'different' editions: the East and the West. In actual fact there is very little difference between them apart from the local advertising. This free newspaper is distributed to households in the area. It is also left at business premises, doctor's waiting rooms, etc. The paper is published on a Thursday and usually comes inside a four page wrap around advertising feature. This adds nothing to the paper but brings in lots of money for the publishers (Cumberland News Group who run the press in this area.) There are a few local interest stories which are usually old news gleaned from elsewhere. There is a letters colum...

janharper Cumberland News
... Cumberland News is the weekly newspaper for Carlisle and north Cumbria. It is published on a Friday. Most of the news included is from the northern part of the county but it does cover the Penrith area too. (This area has its own weekly paper as well.) The paper is a broadsheet and costs 47 pence which is expensive for the content. It is also a very 'dirty' paper and tends to make your hands and clothes black with printing ink. (Something to do with the type of ink.) There are two sections to this newspaper. Part one covers news from the area which is usually community based and farming news. The farming section is quite big in comparison with the rest...
