Advantages: It's free
Disadvantages: Not worth reading unless you need a plumber!
The Cumbrian Gazette comes in two 'different' editions: the East and the West. In actual fact there is very little difference between them apart from the local advertising. This free newspaper is distributed to households in the area. It is also left at business premises, doctor's waiting rooms, etc. The paper is published on a Thursday and usually comes inside a four page wrap around advertising feature. This adds nothing to the paper but brings in lots of money for the publishers (Cumberland News Group who run the press in this area.) There are a few local interest stories which are usually old news gleaned from elsewhere. There is a letters column which is usually full of fairly regular 'moaners' airing their views. A recent 28 page east Cumbria edition of the Gazette carried almost twenty three pages of advertising. Oh, I forgot, there almost a whole page of sports news inside the back page of this edition. There are very few jobs advertised in this paper (most employers opt for the Cumberland News) and there is little property for sale or rent. There are a few motoring adverts. If you are looking for household services like plumbers, builders, etc you will find local ones in here (its a cheap place to advertise in comparison with the other papers in the group.) This paper doesn't cost anything but its not worth even picking it up unless you are looking for local services or articles for sale.
