The Big Issue:
... Tomlinson, the middle-aged guy who died after being whacked with a trunction at the May Day marches in London, was a chronic alcoholic and earlier in the same day had blocked and then kicked a police van in his drunken state. Mr Tomlinson was staying at a bail hostel in London and was homeless and selling the Big Issue (although on the day also selling the Evening Standard). And so there, for me, lies the problem... As a man who likes to feel informed and updated about a vast spectrum of subjects this claim provoked a surge of scepticism in me when the first 55 page issue arrived in my post box. The Week have a perpetual offer of free magazines for new customers to sample, and out of nothing more than a healthy curiousity I decided to succumb to their promotion. Readers Digest ... s Digest is a monthly magazine that comes out all over the world. It s famous because it s small (around half the size of a normal mag), and contains a real mix of articles broadly typified as general interest . I remember these from years and years ago. My grandparents often had them, and apart from that I often come across them in the doctors or other waiting rooms. The best thing about them is there is so much to read. They have a lot of pages and are very compact. There are so many different articles that you have a LOT to read. The articles are often true life stories (of all types) and short stories. There is a lot of emphasis on text and not much on pictu... Read the full review: Lots to digest by bruffyboy |

Readers Digest ... ve subscribed to this magazine for 3 years now, my interest started with my Mum who always took a pile of these on holiday with her and when I ran out of books I d turn to her stash. Now I always keep one in my handbag to turn to when I am waiting or queuing. It helps that I am an avid and unfussy reader I think! This dinky little mag does not disappoint. Every inch of space is used in a creative and engaging way. The stories are upbeat and positive, tales of survival and success so it really has a feel good factor. There are some regular features like letters page, jokes and humourous tales about life and work but my favourite is the nattily titled "It pays to ...
