Outdated, over-rated and overpriced

Advantages: Coverage of UK news
Disadvantages: Bias towards favourite brands. Better more informative content available over the net
Cycling Weekly is often seen as a marmite subject. Generally loved or hated. I'm afraid i'm in the second school of thought so will apologise to anyone reading this who is of the former.
Having strayed away from the magazine I recently decided to revisit and see if i've been missing out. I also needed some holiday reading for a 4 hour flight.
The magazine title gives it all away- a weekly magazine on the subject of cycling with fact and some humour thrown in. Much of the fact is in the shape of reports on events and races across Europe and the World
The general format is news, product reviews and mainly advertisements towards the end of the magazine including personal sales items- a format which has not changed in the last 10 years. Sadly the nature of the content has not changed over the last 10 years either
I started reading as an 18 year old and I believed it was being writen by a bunch of old men who were obsessed by time trials and a certain number of brands. Sadly picking the magazine up again that has not changed. I have riden many of the items they have recommended over the years and found that the products have not been of high quality or performance and it's seemed like they've been satisfying an advertiser/ sponsor.
The magazine still seems to be obsessed with Time Trialling while in the real world Track racing, Cyclo Cross and Road Racing have become far more popular.
I like the fact that focus is now given on Sportive events as these will help the sport develop in a non competitive manner and provide health benefits however 10 pages of UK Sportive Reviews and a page of Road Race results to a young male is unacceptable news coverage.
I found the health and fitness sections to be informative yet simple and non specific.
When there is such a wealth of information out there on the internet with sites like cyclingnews.com and pezcyclingnews to provide far more indepth and informative reports sadly I will continue to stay away from Cycling Weekly in future.
Summary: Worthwhile occassional read if you stay open minded
