Advantages: Brilliant reporting, great fact-finding, informative
Disadvantages: They occasionally serialise a 'celebrity's' autobiography which is a complete waste of print
I have been reading the Daily Mail for as long as I can remember; as a child it was the paper of choice for my father and, even at five or six years old, apparently, I was as keen to read it as he was.
This is the paper that is either loved or hated, especially by politicians. Unlike many other dailies, it does not feel the need to perpetuate the myths that everything is alright with the way our country is being run. It tells the truth and has uncovered many things that governments have tried to keep hidden. It has spear-headed several campaigns on serious issues such as mixed-sex wards in our hospitals, care homes for the elderly and so on. The Daily Mail is on the side of those the establishment take for granted.
Many people grumble about this paper with politicians in particular being quite spiteful - they obviously do not like the way reporters find out what is happening on our behalf and then let us know. We could do with more papers of this far-reaching searching quality. Without the Daily Mail, many changes would have been made without us, as taxpayers, finding out about it. We can do nothing about these changes, of course, because all the power is now in the hands of Brussels, but at least we know about them.
More power to the press, I say, although the politicians would do anything to restrict their freedom. Without our brilliant journalists, we would be in the dark about many areas that affect us in our daily lives.
Summary: Keeps you up to date with what's really happening around you
