Advantages: Lots of stories

Disadvantages: The politics aren't subtle

I have bought the Daily Mail for as many years as I've been buying papers, I'd feel a bit strange if I missed it. Fairly but not horrifically right wing, it contains the usual mix of news, sport, columnists, lifestyle etc.

I always feel it is a good read, the sort of paper you cuold take a on a journey and read right through. The politics are Tory and the contempt for New Labour is clear as is the cosying up to Cameron. It is hard not to be amused by the fact that whoever works in the picture department always chooses the most awful Cherie Blair (a particular D.M bete noir) picture to go with any article about her, so blatant.

The columnists I mostly skip, the coming on board of Littlejohn nearly made me stop buying the paper. Amanda Plattel writes with a caustic pen and can be very stinging. The Ephraim Hardcastle column of politics and gossip is entertaining. The features are good and the Saturday edition is always a good read. The question and answers from the public near the back is full of interesting and informative trivia.

It has its odd obsessions, Cherie B, Diana, PC causes, Ian Blair, Mandelson and Kate Middleton, but there is always something readable and thought provoking.

Summary: Readable
