I must confess I'm not a regular buyer of Dr. Dobbs, partly because it's hard to find, and partly because it doesn't always appeal to me. It's a computer magazine, but one that stands far apart from all others. It's aimed at programmers and computer professionals, in a big way. You could almost call this magazine snobbish - it snubs people with a Windows background, sneers at VB and laughs at those who don?t run Linux. I bought a few issues of this magazine a year or two ago and found it very interesting, although the majority of the topics covered were unique. Every month the main topic of discussion ranges from security to C++ programming, so each month will focus on the subject in detail with source code covering the examples described. The thing is that I found myself saying 'When will I ever need this stuff, what's this for?'. Coming from a VB/Win32 background, a lot of what I was reading was new to me.
