Advantages: The best there is on the market., Good book reviews., Serious coverage of Buffy and Angel.

Disadvantages: Loss of direction, Simplified episode guides

Around two years ago, I would never have missed an episode of Dreamwatch. Their news was up to date, their episode guides were good, they had a very funny guy whose name I can't remember writing the column on the last page and their book reviews were second to none.

Unfortunately, the magazine has gone downhill since then. Their episode guides have gone from two or three paragraphs on each episode to a one-line summary of the plot with a mark out of 5, the news is all available on the internet sooner and the guy who used to do the last page has gone.

That's not to say that it's no good at all any more, the book reviews are still excellent and the interviews and features are still better than those found in any other magazine. The posters they keep giving out of Buffy and her friends aren't going to get any complaints from me either.

A bigger problem is that with the end of Star Trek DS9, Babylon 5, Red Dwarf and so many others, the writers don't seem to know what they're trying to write about any more. In the past few months there have been features or reviews of the Simpsons, James Bond, Pokemon and 102 Dalmations!

The magazine is still far better than anything else on the market, though, so whenever I buy any SF magazine at all, it's going to be Dreamwatch.
