time flies when you read empire (Empire)

Advantages: good unbiased opinions, great interviews, value for money

Disadvantages: not any i can think of

When i first left school at 16 i had two videos in my collection. Terminator 2 and Taxi Driver. I started doing a course that involved using video cameras and one of my classmates was really into film he started going on about this magazine he read called Empire. I had seen it before on shelves in newsagents but hadn't really paid much attention, So i skipped along to find a copy in my local shop and found a copy, promptly handing over my £2.60(?) the door to the world of film was opened.

Since then i have not missed a month and have spent far too much money on film related stuff. The good thing about Empire is that it is diverse enough for anyone interested in the subject matter. From shallow gossip about film news to deep discussions about film issues. The magazine is well priced so that if you don't want to read some of the deeper stuff or some of the interviews that don't interest you then it is still value for money. The style of writing is unbiased and never pretentious or condascending. Also the magazine gets a lot of interviews with big stars and never favours one particular genre. As well as reviews of new releases there are reviews of dvds, videos', film related cds' and books. All reviews are written by people who know what they're talking about and that comes through in the writing.

I have now been reading for nearly six years, i suppose i am nearly a veteran reader although it doesnt feel long ago since i bought my first issue. I now own in excess of 300 videos and over 200 dvds' and it's all down to this marvellous publication.
