The only performance car magazine worth reading (Evo)

Advantages: Fantastic photography, comprehensive coverage of performance cars

Disadvantages: Perhaps too nerdy?

At two years old 'Evo' is the youngest in the New (as opposed to Classic) car magazine sector, yet it has managed to easily trump it's main competitors - 'Car' and 'Top Gear' magazines. This is possibly because much of the magazine's staff used to work on the now defunct Performance Car magazine. Performance Car was a different beast, however, incorporating a few too many elements of Max Power, and so not nearly as grown up a read as 'Evo'.

The success of Evo as a car magazine can be put down to a combination of incredibly slick photography and a complete disregard for anything but performance cars. This is one car magazine where you will not have to put up with mind numbingly dull reviews of people carriers or wheezy 1.1 malaysian hatchbacks. Instead there is page after page of Porsches, Ferraris, Lotus's et al. As such it often seems to be a magazine for fantastists or those not yet old enough to drive (as the letters page often shows) but this is hardly a problem. The only real complaint has to be that the writers occasionally seem to forget that they are writing for drivers that do not have their breadth of experience - I doubt many people could claim that a Lotus Elise feels a bit under powered, or that there is such an enormous difference between the different Impreza Turbo variants.
