Advantages: Very nice + helpful if there are no problems in your pregnancy

Disadvantages: No help if you problems, make you feel worse

Since I got pregnant nine long months ago i have lost my previous ignorance of pregnancy. Gone are all the thoughts of a happy little bump with strangers admiring your new shape, scan piccies to show off and then a perfect baby at the end. It was replaced with worry and paranoia from newspapers, books and television shows, I didn't realise all the things that could go wrong and that a lot of pregnancys were far from perfect.

I bought the pregnancy magazines expecting them to cover all types of problems, from not enough amniotic fluid to baby deformaties, things that haunted me and many of my other pregnant friends at each scan and antenatel. You would think that magazines such as these would cover these things, to reasure and help women with agonising decisions to make, or suspected problems.

I have to say that all the pregnancy magazines, including Expecting our baby are all about perfect couples with perfect pregnancys, perfect incomes and end up with a 'perfect baby' nothing makes you feel worse when you are trying to juggle bills, are a single mum/dad or have problems with your baby/body. There is never anything about any problems that can occur and leave women whos pregnancy isn't 'normal' to panic and think they are freaks. Thank god for the internet.

To improve the magazine they need to tone down their 'happy happy families' image as it just isn't realistic any longer and feature real problems that face pregnant women every day and maybe babies that aren't born 'normal' so that people know they are just as perfect as those born from inanly grinning couples who have no stress in their 'perfect' lives.

I'm not jealous (really!) but when i needed support and reasurrance these magazines made me feel worse, it was only on the internet i realised that many, many pregnant women had problems that are NEVER covered in a single issue of Expecting our baby or the othe
r magazines. Why is this?
