Advantages: None!

Disadvantages: male oriented!

At 20 next moth I have been into Formula 1 for a couple of years and really enjoy watching the races but also sice moving into a University flat I have taken to reading magazines about Formula One aswell!

I feel that we are very wrongly done by when it come to the focus of this particular magazine. As it is very much focused on male readers when surely Formula One an all motor racing are sports enjoyed by both sexes.

The first issue which (Feb 10th) was ok. i thought it was informative and interesting read.

Unfortunatly I was not the person who weh=nt to buy issue 2 (24th feb) as I was busy a friend had purchased this copy.

Well it struck me as odd that the front cover had a woman with no more that dungaries on showing part of her breast should apper on the front cover of a motor racing mag. Well I began reading it and on page 1 here appears this woman again.

So as were reading through this mag this strange figure keeps on appearing on the page for no apparent reason it is by this time I have concluded that the editors think that by sticking women on the pages i will keep the interest of their male readers. When frankly if you a follower of the sport you wouldn;t want that kind of thing any way and what about us lasses!

The mag was topped off by an advert on page 79 for table top dancers!

Come on editors think about your real readers, the people who generally have the money to read your magazines having not got drunk on it!

Note: The editor is a man so well it figures.

But I certainly won't be buying this over priced trash anymore!

I've rated SWU as all you do in this opinion is complain about the sex aspect. This is something that a lot of magazines do - computer magazines and 'gadget' type ones are just as guilty. I'm sure many men could complain about the sickening romance stories in cross stitch magazines as well - I cross stitch as a female, and know a lot of men who do too!
What about the content of the magazine - I haven't seen this one in my local shops and would like to know more - does it cover current news, focus on drivers, teams, circuits? Is it a technical magazine or more on the gossip side? How current is it, or is all the news old? Is it biased towards a certain driver? Does it cover the history of the sport? How good are the photographs?
There are so many things that you can cover here - perhaps it's worth ignoring the scantilly clad ladies, and if it isn't, as other mags are better, then say so.
Sorry for the long comment! If you add more to this let me know and I'll re-read and re-rate.

I think that you have made a rash decision about this magazine. This is perhaps the only F1 mag that does concentrate on the enthusiast with informative articles and detailed reporting. OK so they used a well known medium to attract attention, but lets face it the whole sport is based on fast cars and the fast women that hang from the drivers arms. Give it another try and I am sure that you will find that this blatant use of "sex to sell" was a one off. Normally the front page carries a picture of the Editor himself and I can assure you that although the editor is indeed a man - that behind him sits a woman!
