Advantages: Lovely ladies

Disadvantages: Ads,inserts and fashion

I started bying FHM when Loaded became an embarrassment. It got to the stage that it had taken it's rightful place along side those other top shelfers.

FHM (For Him Magazine) clearly sees itself as a classier piece of work and although it still always features a scantily clad lady, never is a nipple to be seen.

The best sections for me are the jokes, true stories(supposedly real experiences sent in by readers) and Reporter which has news and reviews.I don't study the fashion section as it's usually full of ridiculous Hawiian shirts which as a pity as it covers about 25% of the magazine.

It also bulges with adverts which cover another 25% and has so many advertising inserts that you risk arrest for littering just by picking it up.Reglar features are a predictable assortment of "dump your girlfriend" "make up with your girlfriend"and "cheat on your girlfriend".

I do enjoy the "Eye on the provinces" section in which small town newspapers are slagged off for their limp news "bottle of lemonade stolen" etc. Also worth a look is the "What's wrong with FHM" section in which nitpickers write in with factual errors.Actually the best bit of this section is the dimwits who argue a losing point "re your feature on Leonardo it was in fact DaVinci who painted the Mona Lisa" who are supposed to send the editors £20 for their thickness.

Normally a covergirl sells the issue and it's testament to the magazine's success that they now get Brittany Spears where they once had Samantha Janus. The cover girl always gets at least another six interior pages, which are mostly photos with the odd bit of feeble 'journalism' added to make it a 'feature' and not just a pictorial.

Much of the remainder of the magazine is filler with readers filling the pages for the overworked staff by sending in photos of injuries or strange people who have
shown up in their photos.

On reading back this review I'm not really sure why I buy it!I guess it must be better as a sum of it's parts and it certainly is the best mens' lifestyle magazine available-which may be to damn it with faint praise.

I got my boyfriend a years subscription to FHM for Christmas
and I enjoy it just as much as he does.
It's a hell of a lot better than most "womens" magazines.
