Advantages: Not so bad, interesting features

Disadvantages: It IS laddish, like it or not

Yeah well we all know it - FHM has got a bit of a lad's reputation hasn't it? Well, I can assure you that I am not a 'lad' in any but the broadest sense of the word, and though I wouldn't subscribe to FHM, I do buy it quite regularly. You know it's really not that bad. You've heard all the stories on the internet about people who have managed to kill themselves in weird ways - well a lot of FHM is filled with that sort of thing. Strange little stories that can range from being trivial and dull to highly amusing. It has interviews with pretty famous people, reviews of films, CDs, gadgets - it has a fashion section, a medical section and various other genuinely quite interesting things. But yes - the semi-naked woman on the cover is a pretty fair indication on the general gist of the mag. You won't pass more than a couple of pages without seeing some leather-clad lady or bikinied-model. A lot of the stories have a sexual element somewhere in them - and there's often some very offputting and frankly rather sad section about how to liven up your sex life - if you need tips from this magazine then you don't really deserve one at all! Thankfully 'lad culture' is at least partly based on the normal male, and so if you are the standard hetrosexual chap then there's going to be at least a page or two that you'd think was worth reading. After that, your interest increases proportionally to just how much of a lad you are - until at the real extreme, the real FHM fan, saying 'Phwwooor look at the jugs on 'er' at the photo shoot of Donna Air, or laughing heartily at the medical stories of constipation or the like. Basically quite a jolly magazine displaying a pretty high laddish element that even so is often exaggerated.
