A watered-down Playboy, no? (FHM)

Advantages: The style and presentation is good.

Disadvantages: The prose has a lot to be desired

Together forever labelled alongside with Loaded as pioneers of British men's magazines, a much better comparison would be Playboy. However, it never really goes that far when revealing detailed female flesh. FHM seems to have become a very respectable magazine to appear in (and those females who have appeared in the magazine in the past and the present cannot be described as just any old person of the street....they are genuine starlets). They show enough to be interested but never enough to cause a furore among the general population (although as the reigning circulation champ, that could be argued). Although beyond this demeaning point, what is there of FHM? When pressed, most would opt for the fashion pages at the back. But that's a small part of the magazine. What makes up most of the content is pure unadulterated chauvinistic articles about sexual politics And I like it. You can't treat this magazine with kid gloves or an iron fist. This is filled with irony and laced with insulting language. Although what really gets my ire is Grub Smith, who I find awful as is the fact that a third of the magazine is just adverts.. However lately, it has become lazy. it's been stealing ideas from competitors abroad and at home (amusingly enough, if you care to seek out both the August issues of FHM and Maxim, you'll find the same joke printed....two jokers managing to get away with some prizes for doing so....begins with three old men talking about their bodily functions) with article ideas and layout but that can also be levelled at their opponents as well.
