Advantages: A reasonable read, famous lasses

Disadvantages: Bit childish sometimes, could get boring

That's the quick summary of FHM, a fairly typical monthly men's magazine found in the newsagents, if you have not read this magazine then read on for a short breakdown of the average type of content in a typical month.


Sex

The mag is a little like a soft porn mag, with pictures of famous stars abounding, but it really is soft, most of the girls are wearing more clothes than many girls do on the beach on a warm day.

Its worth buying if a starlet you fancy is featured (Kensplace is still drooling over Alyson Hannigan who plays Willow in Buffy the Vampire slayer), as they are usually good quality pics.

The magazine has a wide selection of articles, which are well written and often interesting.
There does seem to be a predominance of sexually orientated articles, surveys of female opinions and so on.

For example just some of the articles in the march 2001 issue were

3000 Women Laid bare - a survey of 3000 women (hmm I wonder if that was a real representation of the typical female, if there is such a thing.)

16 Tricks to get yourself on TV (Kensplace may one day join the growing band off celebrity DooYoo'ers) - this was a interesting article.

How to move in with a lady and keep your gear - a article on moving in with member of the fairer sex, and a contract to ensure she keeps her hands of your stuff , whatever happened to sharing?


Fashion

Overpriced is the word that springs to mind when I look at the fashion articles in
this magazine, £242 for a pair of trousers, £99 for a belt £240 for a shirt, these are the sort of prices you can expect to see.

If you stupid enough to pay that much, then go for it, but personally, I think people who buy these items would be better of spending their money on getting professional help for their gullibility!


Letters

Readers letters are featured, quite a few of the readers seem to be guests of her majesty, and the rest are usually young males, most of the letters are of a similar vein, there is usually not much in the way of intellectual discussion going on in here, although saying that its not really a magazine that is aimed at encouraging much in the way of intellectual thought.


Gore

Look a picture of some guy with a yucky skin disease - Im so cool and trendy reading this, er not.... What's the point, its just cheap thrills for some, and shock factor to help sell the mag, but saying that there is not that much of it, so its not a major problem.


Boys Toys

What men's mag would be complete without the usual reviews of boys toys, some of these are often toys for boys and girls, such as digital camera's and DVD players.

Unfortunately the reviews are often very short and lack any real detail, so are not really of much use, other than to let you know the product exists, and some of the main features, so its back to DooYoo for in depth reviews.


Overall Impression

This is a reasonably priced magazine at 3.00, its a magazine aimed at young men and probably teens, but I could imagine it being read by some young females too.

Its readable, and has some nice pictures to drool over, nothing to hot though, very mild but still good quality, and contains plenty to read, being on average around 200 pages or more.
If you want a more serious thought provoking read then buy read
ers digest, if you want porn then look on the top shelf, if you want a light read then you could do worse to check out this mag.

Its certainly better than I thought it would be, but I wont be buying it on a regular basis, as the format would become repetitive fairly quickly, but I will glance at it each month to see what articles are in, and which stars are featured.

Update - I notice this is getting a large amount of what are called “non member reads”, basically this means people are reading this article after finding a link to it on a site other than dooyoo, there is nothing wrong with this, but it does mean I dont get my 5 pence....
