Advantages: Lad's Stuff !!!

Disadvantages: Loads of adverts

FHM is a "men's magazine". I'm glad these things were invented because they are clearly distinguished from all that top-shelf muck that you find in newsagents, you know the ones i mean, with a couple of strategically placed little star shaped stickers on each from cover. You don't get sweaty and nervous when you take it to the counter, you dont want to be out of the shop half as quickly and its not the type of magazine that you hide under your bed and only read it when your on your own (not that i have ever purchased a magazine of this nature!)

Its a real lads magazine and it's a much better read than your average 'Teenage Amateurs' mag, for so many reasons...

The ladies featured are always really top notch, usually well known, or up and coming celebrities. It gives you a chance to see some very sexy pics of ladies you may have previously only seen presenting kid's shows, singing in 'S club 7' or playing tennis. hehehe. Without being sexist and disrespectful, these pictures are always really tasteful and taken by some very good photographers who know how to get the best out of their subjects without exploiting them. There's not really much real nudity, but the pictures are still really appealing due to the way they are set up. This is fine by me because i'm not a dirty person- i'd much rather see Jennifer Lopez in some sexy swimwear on a beach than look at dirty lasses with no shame in a cheap bedroom. Theres usually three or four featured celebrities, who are always willing to give quality photoshoots due to the nature of the pictures taken. They are always accompanied by good interviews as well- i think the interviewers have a bit of charm which is good because they ask some stuff which other publications might not have the bottle to ask. I don't think there has been an FHM photoshoot which hasn't really complemented the lady in question.

The magazine is good value for mon
ey as well. At least 300 pages in full colour each month for the price of £3 i think it is. One criticism would be the number of adverts- i'd say at least 20% of the pages were advertisements, but at least they are all advertising things that lads would be interested in- clothes, aftershaves, cars, drink- stuff like that. The adverts in FHM are just something you come to accept- they don't really annoy me like a load of adverts during a TV show might, because you can just flick over the page and find some more quality literature. In fact the adverts featured are actually a good way to keep up with the newest products on the market, so it wouldn't be the same without the adverts.

The acticles featured are mainly on stuff that really does interest men. There's all the interesting sex stuff- how to treat your girlfriend and things like that- always well written with the man in mind, usually quite funny and never too serious, despite giving some really useful facts. I don't know a magazine which caters for its readership in a more relevant way.

There are some amazingly clever and interesting articles, which it is obvious men are going to love reading, and now i'm not just on about all the sex stuff... I'm finding it hard to recall any previous issues so i'll give some examples from this month's.

What is more impressive for a bloke to have than an extreme knowledge of international beers and lagers?? it just so happens that this months issue has got a multiple page feature giving details and ratings of every beer and lager you can think of from accross the world, including full colour pictures of the bottles/cans. Priceless. they do stuff like this every months with all the stuff lads will be enthralled with- cars, clothes, gadgets- allsorts. And of course there is the amazing Top 100 ladies which they do each year- voted by the readers, always resulting in a full coulour supplement. Great.

Then ther
e's the totally crazy articles- you know the sort things that lads can't get enough of- the first human head transplant, tales of allsorts of medical astrocities and tales of misfortune that us men could just read all day. It's packed full of stuff like this all the time. Where else can you find out about a mini fridge for beer cans that can be powered from your car cigarette lighter?? The magazine thrives on telling men really interesting (if at times totally useful and theoretical) facts that they can tell all their mates.

There's regular stuff which is also very good. The jokes are quality- if you ever hear a new adult joke knocking about, its likely that it has come from FHM, who are always up there with the best jokes. Here's a short example, though most of the jokes are a bit longer...

What's red and yellow and looks good on hippies??
Fire.

hehehe. They do a load of reviews too, on things like films and music. They don't compare with 'Q's range of reviews, but this isn't even a music magazine.

Overall FHM has got just about everything a man could want- and you ladies are thinking wrong- it's not just full of topless babes.

A top read, which deserves to win awards time after time. Thats enough about my opinion, FHM is ok too.

My First FHM was 1st year Uni 1996 (I Think) #, back then I read it and it was more edgey, funny and less glam. Now FHM continues to grow as a *brand* therefore I feel this mag is losing its journalistic edge, with many articles being recyc from previous editions. Good OP though, but I am buying FHM less and less.

ace, as a 'lady' I have to say I really enjoy FHM, a useful insight into the minds of men and some of the males modelling clothes aren't bad either heh heh! I met a guy on holiday in July who brought the mag to Egypt with him and it entertained us for two weeks by the pool! :)
