I bought a copy of FHM for my partner this weekend. Some of my male friends read it and I thought it was a male version of Cosmopolitan and and didn't think that it was anything like Loaded. It seems that it is a cross between the two. It's in a similar format but thicker, glossier and more expensive than most of the other glossies on sale. The advertising is high quality and relevant to its readership. On flicking through it I found interesting and well-written articles and a great style of men's problem page (“Ask Dad” is a great idea for the male ego). But I also found Loaded-style articles about the celebration of “human freaks” with full colour photos of Siamese twins and hunch-backs and the like. I wasn't very impressed with a long article detailing exactly how to have an affair and not get caught (call me a prude, but.....). What kind of impression is this magazine giving to its readership? I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Don’t bother.

- 10/10/00 But remember, it is a men's magazine. Although I am not disagreeing with your view, men may have similar feelings about a periodical such as Chat or More!. Personally I find these magazines hard to find entertaining.
I think FHM is supposed to be taken with a pinch of salt. Whereas Loaded is aimed at 'lads', FHM is slightly more discerning. The articles can provide an entertaining read, but I would never act on them, or jump off a cliff just because FHM told me how to do it! |
