Disadvantages: Official magazines seem to be pricey
There are loads of game magazines out there for purchase, but what one should you buy, and which are the best? Well, for each console and even company, there are many different magazines. Right now, the main consoles are as follows:
Xbox 360
Playstation 3
Nintendo Wii
Nintendo DS
Sony PSP
These are the latest handheld and games consoles. There are different magazines out there for each one. For the Xbox 360, I would recommend the official Xbox 360 magazine. Normally at around £5.49, it is quite expensive. However, it is official with the most reliable information and loads of cool content. The magazine normally comes with a disc full of demos or/and videos. There are various other freebies over time.
For the Playstation 3, I would recommend the official Playstation magazine, as it is mostly based on the PS3 and gives out plenty of information.
For the Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS, the official Nintendo magazine is great. At a cheaper price of around £3.99, you can get the magazine every month with some kind of gift. Gifts that I have received are thing such as stickers, game cases, console cases (for DS), posters, keyrings and more!
For the Sony PSP, the official Playstation magazine is good too, but it covers information on every other sony Console, just like the official Nintendo magazine does.

There, you can actually download legally monthly magazines for the DS & PSP, Playstation 3, Xbox 360, PC games and there are more magazines too! This is great and totally free! They download as PDF files, so you can view them whenever and save them to your computer.
I think that gaming magazines are really useful. Apart from enjoying reading them, because it is my hobby; there is also a lot of information in them. Normally, a gaming magazine will contain information on game release dates and give each game a percentage or rating out of 5 or 10. With the added bonus of reviews, this helps you to decide what games to buy and what games are not worth buying. The magazines will also contain more articles for pleasure about games. The latest games will always have some specially devoted title and article for them if they are big titles. Some magazines also have guides for certain games, so you can refer to these if you get stuck. Other magazines I have seen with cheat code manuals and tip manuals, that have help in them for a lot of games. Also, magazines like to include competitions in one section where you have to answer questions or complete puzzles on games. Prizes can be won here such as more games or even consoles!
Overall, I think games magazines are essential for a gamer. Buy the one that you like best, but bare in mind that some are pricey! The official ones are always the best, but the most expensive too. If you play the Xbox 360 more than the Nintendo Wii for example, then perhaps subscribe to an Xbox 360 magazine for all the latest information and pleasure. They are better than the internet because all the information you need is in one place, and they are fun and interesting to read. They also come with freebies the majority of the time!
