Gaming magazines are as varied as a pack of monkeys, some have normal butts, others pink, purple, blue and so on. Ok, perhaps not such a good example. Anyway, monkey butts aside, the range of gaming magazines available is amazing. There are loads. So what sort do you choose when starting out or changing magazines. Well, in my mind there are a few broad genres of gaming magazines. There are the sexually frustrated mags, the puss-squeezing immature boys mags and the mainly sensible and respectful mags. Let me explain further. The sexually frustrated mags are the ones that link everything with some chick wearing a bikini or a coarse joke. They are filled with pictures of computerised people like Reicho from Ridge or the infamous Lara. These mags tend to provide little information, lots of rubbish and scrappy reviews. Personally I think they are a waste of time, you wanna look at bikini clad women then buy a mag like Loaded with REAL people in. The puss squeezing immature boys mags are the scourge of gaming magazines and a stain on mankind, well maybe not that bad but they are pretty poor. These mags consist of poor jokes, mainly about opposition mags and consoles. The mainly respectful mags are the real gaming mags. There are generally only one or two of these per platform plus the mighty Edge. These mags tend to provide good quality reading, reasonably reliable reviews and up to date news and previews of upcoming games. Now to the King of gaming mags, Edge. If you are after an unbiased, totally knowledgeable, mulit-format gaming mag then this is the one to get. The information giving on the games industry will more than suffice for every tech-head out there whilst the reviews are solid and unbelievably hard to get good marks on. If Edge gave it 9 then you must own the game. So choose your gaming mag and be happy.
