Advantages: Lively, informative, good value
Disadvantages: seems to encourage hard work
First off, let me state that I write as an expert on gardening. For more years than I care to remember, I have watched people take part in the sport of garden-taming and have even seen one or two emerge victorious from the confrontation. So, when I picked up the August edition of Garden Ideas, I thought I might find articles on such things as where to put the put the chairs, how to con the neighbours into cutting the hedge and my favourite - putting on a serious limp when next doors are out cutting the lawn and my grss is almost waist high. Alas, instead I found it to be a Cheapish but really cheerful mag full of a wealth of ideas to improve one's modest patch. This edition includes articles on patios, aromatic displays, using plastic items, borders, use of colour as well as my special favourite - planting for butterflies. Also included is an article on how to attract or deter badgers from visiting your garden. Of interest to many will be the chance to win one of 5 seta of modern patio furniture each worth £300. There are also 'giveaways' and vouchers for 2 for 1 entry to several gardens such as as Capel Manor and Ryton Organic Gardens. This is an easy to read mag, colouful and well laid out that is well on the way to achieving its announcement as 'The No1 for Ideas' If only I could find that spade . . . .
