Advantages: wide range of features for all levels of interest

Disadvantages: can't think of any...

Heralded as Britain's best selling gardening magazine it's easy to understand why. This popular publication ties in with BBC 2's Gardeners' World show and contains features written by the familiar and famous gardening names who present the show as well as a wealth of knowledge from Britain's other gardening gurus. A monthly magazine, it's a glossy, information packed read. In gardening terms the contents are a month ahead and often contain what, when and how-to features. There's a good mix of plant information, make-over and landscaping ideas, specialist subjects, feature gardens, places to visit and problem solving articles. The regular panel of experts who answer readers' queries is a particular favourite feature of mine especially as the differing views and opinions of the panel reflects the wide range of styles and preferences in gardening. It really is crammed full and takes a few reads to get through!

Some of the articles, especially those on plantsmanship, may be a little daunting for persons new to gardening but these are usually well balanced with back to basics features. The articles are well written and laid out, often accompanied with step-by-step photographs and examples. The photography in the magazine is beautiful. It's a wonderful magazine to help build up your knowledge and to keep as a reference for future. If you are an experienced garden, undaunted by Latin names, you'll find there's plenty of more in-depth and cutting edge pieces to remind you gardening is a lifelong lesson.

The what's on guide to television, radio and nationwide garden events is very useful. It often has free seeds or plant offers.

Gardeners World magazine is a friendly publication successfully removing much of the garden snobbery that abounds whilst maintaining a high standard of information.
