Advantages: Entertainment
Disadvantages: Gibberish, people moan
There seems to be a general public consensus that when someone reads a newspaper or watches a TV program or infact connects in any way with the media that what they see hear or read has to be educating them. A good example of what I mean are tabloids like the Sun, if you go to the dooyou section on the sun you will see a number of complaints about how terrible the paper is, and sound as if they have been written by doom mongers and sad lonely depressed people with nothing better to do. The problem is they haven’t, they have been written by normal people you or me. There are so many complaints because for some reason people believe the Sun should be educational. Maybe when Newspapers first came out they were designed to educate the people and let them know what was going on in the world. Today we have so much of that already, television is bombarded with News and information like Horizon, BBC News 24, Equinox, Liquid News etc. and hourly news on almost every radio station. So do the papers really serve much use anymore? Especially as the news is a day late. The Sun like many of its counterparts such as News Of The World and The Sport, now provide entertainment for Britain’s millions of depressed workers on their way to work every morning. They are so successful because these people do not want to read over again all the depressing events of the world they heard on TV last night. So I say give the entertainment papers a break, there are plenty of educational options to choose from if you want serious political views, and sensible news stories. By the way the sun is Britain’s most popular paper. I used the sun as an example for my argument, it is and argument which applies to every source of media not just to Newspapers and people should view it as such, it is not just a rant defending the Sun.
