worth buying December's edition for the free nail varnish (Glamour)

Advantages: good size, reasonably priced, aimed at younger women than me

Disadvantages: loads of ads. not 'meaty' enough for me

It was thanks to an email from moneyexpert.com that I found out about Glamour magazine which, in December's issue, has a free Nail Inc nail varnish worth £10.50 free.

I rushed down to my local newsagents to buy a copy, not so much for the magazine, but for the nail polish which would make an ideal stocking-filler for one of my daughters!

I wasn't sure where to locate the issue as the name 'Glamour' conjured up all sorts of visions, but there it was snuggled amongst the other women's glossy mags.

It's a nice compact size & pretty heavy for the £2 but fitted easily in my bag - so might be worth a thought if travelling on a long train journey?

Apparently this is 'Britain's no 1 women's magazine' but to be honest I hadn't heard of it as the only ones I read are the celeb ones that my daughters buy & leave in the bathroom.

This issue has 416 pages & a quick flick through is showing me there are a heck of a lot of adverts especially for expensive make-up & perfumes which I'd dearly love to own but sadly can't afford right now.

There are a variety of interesting articles - ones that I found good were ~
- how stressed are you?
- from Somalian refugee to supermodel
- credit crunch - how the other half lost (bankers & wives - shame!)
- 'I've slept with women' (Paul O'grady)
- binge-drinking

There's an entertainment section which is mainly celeb-based, loads of fashion & beauty pages plus the inevitable horoscopes & health pages.

There's advice on how to revive your libido & sexual problems plus 'this month's best books, music & films etc.

I would say it would be most appealing to the 15 - 45 year age group as the emphasis is mainly on high fashion, make-up, partying, celebs,finding a man - so at 56 years old I found it fairly interesting but it isn't a magazine I'd normally buy for myself.

There's a huge emphasis on expensive make-up, clothes & a pressure on how women should look & feel - not something I look for in a magazine I'm afraid.
