Advantages: Great freebie, mini magazine fits in handbag, some good articles

Disadvantages: A lot of ads, some readers may find the writing is too small

Glossy magazines are usually not my cup of tea as I find them too full of ads and after reading one I often feel like my make up bag is seriously lacking in good quality cosmetics and feel the urge to solve the problem, which is not good for my bank balance.

I bought Glamour last week as it came with a free nail varnish and as my sister-in-law mentioned she'd like some for Christmas, I decided to buy 2 December issues of Glamour (with a different colour for each varnish) and use them as stocking fillers for the grand total of £4 (£2 per issue).

I gave a copy to a friend and finally decided to read my own.

It is a mini magazine so it is handy to carry in your handbag although quite chunky. And even though it is filled with ads, it also has some interesting articles.
In the December issue, apart from the usual fashion tips, it includes articles on:

- how some bars/pubs help encourage binge drinking
- Leona Lewis. I'm not a fan but she seems nice anyway
- how the bank crisis has affected high flyers in the City and their couple
- sisters' rivalry/bond
- New York's sexiest peep show The Box, which only hires dancers who haven't had plastic surgery (makes a change!)
- Paul O'Grady being his usual funny self
- James Corden (the big one from Gavin and Stacey)

and many more pages on beauty tips, celebrities fashion dos and dont's, the coverage of a fashion shoot, the usual advice on how to survive Christmas partying and some recipes too.

If it hadn't been for the free nail varnish which usually retails at £10.50 I probably would have never set eyes on Glamour and bought one.

It was entertaining enough but not very challenging for my brain. Still, sometimes it's nice not to have to think too much.

Summary: An ok glossy magazine with a great freebie
