Advantages: Full of great articles, not just a fashion mag.
Disadvantages: Lots of adverts.
I like a good trashy read every now and again, all the celeb gossip and beauty tips so I like Closer and Heat magazines but I also like the more serious articles you get in better quality magazines. I suppose I want to justify to myself buying a magazine containing gossip. Glamour magazine is exactly the right balance of trash and serious so I find it great value and entertainment.
As I am not the type to buy a magazine every month, I just don't think about it, my other half treated me to a subscription when we saw it on offer in the back of one. The subscription was £7 for six months of magazines, as they retail at £2.00 that is a real bargain! Not only did I get my magazines for six months but I also got a free gift of a eye shadow palette from The Body Shop for signing up. I think My other half signed up for them so that he could read them too! He loves a look through every issue!
This is a monthly magazine, not that reading it lasts me all month! It isn't the usual magazine sized, they have made it slightly smaller so that it will fit in your handbag. I think the fact it is smaller is a real bonus feature, it means you can carry it around without any hassle and read it on the train or where ever you want. Its smaller size is 22cms by 16cms.
They always manage to get a big name for the cover, I received this months just a few days ago and it is Lily Allen on the front, they have had Britney, scarlet Johanson and Victoria Beckham lately. The cover star has a large interview and pictures in the magazine, this is usually a lot longer than most interviews you read in other magazines. They always have great photographs to go with the feature interview too!
The cover also tells you what key features are in the magazine that month. This month on the cover it says they have, 10 sex moves he wants- but won't ask for, 763 spring looks, Sienna Miller works for Glamour, 20% off at Warehouse for every reader, Health alert the silent killer that's deadlier than breast cancer and the disease that turned my fiancé into a stranger. Sounds like a lot in one little mag doesn't it? Well there will be far more than just that!
They always start the same, with the editors letter, not something I tend to read every time but it can be quite interesting. This only appears after several pages of contents and actually is on page 15! Then more adverts before the mailbag section. This covers responses to the last issue, feedback if you will.
There are lots of fashion related articles, who is wearing what, the latest styles, how to wear certain styles so that they suit you, fashion shoots, great items in the stores all the fashion gossip you could wish for really!
They also cover makeup looks and hair styles too. They always have a steal the stars style page where they tell you how to get the featured stars make up look and which products would help you achieve it.
There can be free samples in the magazine too, this month I have got a free sample of Dior skin nude foundation. I have had creams and perfumes in there before too. I know it isn't much but they are a nice bonus and not all magazines have them do they.
This is always a well written and informative magazine, they cover more serious stories too, like a real life section if you want. Real stories of woe, triumph and recovery. This is always a great read that grips you so that you can't stop reading!
They always have a section on trying to understand men, and they think we are difficult to understand! This can be a real laugh a minute read with sex tips and ways of making your relationship stronger.
There are also the usual horoscopes and a few recipes.
The thing that bugs me is the sheer amount of adverts in this mag! There are sometime seven pages back to back of ads, why! The back is all adverts too, 20 pages this issue! So excessive! One of the adverts is like the one we saw when I got my subscription to Glamour in the first place, six months of issues for £6.00 and you get a OPI manicure set free! Apparently this set sells at £29.95, worth having isn't it.
All in all I love this mag and although the amount of advertising does annoy me a little I wouldn't say it was enough to put me off.
Summary: A great magazine, it has something for everyone.
