Advantages: Nice features, clothes
Disadvantages: Too many adverts
Glamour Magazine was launched in 2001 and is one of my favourite magazines. It's what I like to call a fashion magazine, like Cosmo, Marie Claire, etc and opposed to more of a celebrity/gossip magazine like Hello and OK. It comes out monthly and costs £2 which I think is a good price for a magazine like this. According to advertising on the front it says that it is Britain's Number One Women's magazine.
What I like about it is that it has a big focus towards fashion with a few celebrities thrown in and lots of glossy pages of looks, make up, etc. I like that it tends to be a bit more grown up than Cosmopolitan and doesn't contain too many articles on sex tips etc although it does still have a few. I think as I've grown older I have moved away from wanting to know what is happening in the Big Brother house (although I have never wanted to know and never watched the show) as told in Heat magazine and the like and feel I have also moved away from the problem pages "my boyfriend slept with my sister" in such magazines as Cosmo, etc. I am not looking either for magazines that let you take surveys to see if he really is the one or if your surname and star sign matches with his. I am however, still looking for fashion, interesting people stories and some celebrity news and for me Glamour has all of those things.
The magazine comes in a really handy A5, handbag size which is great because I can pop it in my bag and take it on the train with me and not have to worry about a big, hefty magazine taking up space. It also comes in regular size as well if that's what you want. Some months it also comes with a free gift such as a nail varnish, bag etc which is always a nice product and worth having. The magazine generally has about 300 + pages in each issue which is a good size read and generally lasts me a few coffee breaks. For more information you can visit the website which can be found at www.glamour.com
On the front they generally always have a celebrity and then inside you see where they got what they are wearing and how they have done their hair. The best part of this magazine though is definitely the fashion pages. They always feature lots of nice glossy photos and not only have clothes but bags, shoes, make up, hair products etc, etc. The clothes are affordable but they also have some designer gear as well. They generally have a competition each edition too to win some of the fashion items so that is always good.
My one criticism of this magazine would be that they have quite a few full page or even three/four page advertisements that take up a lot of space and that I never read and are quite annoying to have there.
All in all a great magazine that makes me feel glamourous after reading!
