Advantages: Cheaper than the competition

Disadvantages: Not really one for those who like workshop/technics sections.

There are not a great deal of British guitar magazines around. The likes of Total Guitar and Guitar Techniques are more focused on technics and playing with a summarized product review section. Guitarist & The Guitar Magazine are the only two that really look at products and artists firstly, but both still have a large technics section at the back.

So what is the difference between these two magazines. One is 200 pages, with a CD on the cover and costs £4.99. The other one is £2 cheaper, but has no CD & half as many pages.

Guitar Magazine is the cheaper, lighter magazine and tends to review almost the same products each month as Guitarist. The quality difference between the two is hard to determine. I still tend to buy both magazines as both have their pros and cons. The latest Guitar Magazine (February 2001) has a Les Paul feature bias, listing famous LP players and interviewing Les Paul himself and looking at some of his innovations. The product reviews are fairly short and concise, the majority of the adverts are in a section at the back made of lower quality paper, with 2 colour printing.

The workshop/technics section is minimal, the number of product reviews is high, but there aren't many features in this issue, but that is made up by the fact that this edition is a Les Paul special.

yeah I would agree with you i usually buy both , but the reviews in the "guitar magazine" are more adult and don't fall in to the terrible 5 star system.... more for boy i'd say ....Sam good review :)
