Disadvantages: None

I have recently started to read the showbiz goss magazine Heat and would like to inform you of my findings of the product in question.

I initially got into reading this magazine on a regular basis at work when the girls in my team were finished with them and sending them to the recycling bin, I was like wait a minute Hear’say are on the cover let me have a look, yes that is how I picked up my first copy Hear’say!!

It is a glossy magazine that week after week dishes all the low down on the biggest stars, it does tend to focus very much on the faces of the moment, so each week you may find the same person covered a few times!

So James what’s in it?

Well let’s start at the beginning shall we?

First of is the front cover, which always has a big name (great selling point of course) on it this week it is Geri last week it was Pamela Anderson and Liz Hurley and in the past we have seen Kylie and Robbie, Madonna and Guy etc. There is a fairly big portion each week focusing on the magazines exclusive.

Inside the first article we are confronted with is ‘Everyone’s talking about….’ This is the story that has been on everyone’s lips all week i.e. Geri and Robbie has he or hasn’t he?

Then we have the exclusive last week it was a massive 16 page special on the ‘Oscars®’, this was a fantastic read and it was great to be able to read the whole of Julia Roberts speech instead of it being cut here there and everywhere by the news. I also found out that she sent the real Erin Brokovich a bouquet of flowers because she forgot to include her in the acceptance speech how nice was that. This week it is the massively hyped Bridget Jones Premier, forgive me but I am not a fan so was not overly keen on reading it all, but it was nice to hear that Geri plucked someone from the crowd to accompany her what a sweet heart.

The exclusive always has an abu
ndance of photographs of all the stars big and small and even has some small interviews with some of them.

Next we have The Week In Pictures, this is Heat out on the spy and gets shots of the stars in all sorts of states or on location in weird and wonderful places. This week we see some more unfortunate photos of model Jordan certainly no role model!

News & Stuff is a few pages of the news headlines of the week featuring a main big story of what is happening in the showbiz world last week it was meeting the cast of ‘Harry Potter the Movie’ and this week we see a more serious note with the tragic story of Danniella Westbrook. A main feature weekly is ‘On or Off’ which is a run down of showbiz stars that are an item or not and how long will they last, this week features Kylie and her recent blow with her model boyfriend James.

This section also features the weeks TV ratings and who won the battle for the week! You also get the American TV listings. We also see the UK Top Ten Grossing films of the week and the top ten American films.

Next 2 sections are my favourite because you see the stars as real people doing real people things, after all they are real people, phew glad I got that of my chest! Party People is again loads of glossy photos of our stars at party bashes some of them in states of worse for wear but game to get their pictures taken. Star Style focuses mostly on what the stars are wearing or what they are buying such as Julia Roberts award ceremony dress it cost her £10,000 from Valentino and Heat reveals you can get an almost exact replica for £250 from Bernshaw. Excellent fashion tips all round!

There are several star interviews in each magazine every week and some of them of late have been Jennifer Lopez, Geri Halliwell and yip you guessed it Bridget Jones’ one and only Renee Zellwegger.

The magazine also focuses on a lot of health and fitness issues and Geri (yes agai
n) is a main feature here as the country has noticed how fantastic she is looking but is she now to thin?

The magazine covers this issue very well highlighting that although she and others such as Christina Aguillera, Renee Zellwegger may have a body to die for they are not promoting a good image to the public! They focus on people like Kym Marsh from Hear’say and Jennifer Lopez and advise they are better role models for today’s woman and I have to agree.

Next we have the week’s reviews of films, music, videos, DVD’s and books. Again we get the UK’s top 10 grossing films and the top 10 DVD’s and videos of the week yet no sign of the singles and album charts anywhere?

The final section of the book is Heat TV, which is a section I never knew, was in the magazine until recently. You get the full weeks run down of TV programs on terrestrial TV and the extra terrestrial channels. Every day has a Pick of the day choice of what are the best programs and the choices are normally right.

There is also a Film timetable for the week listing all films shown on all channels and what ones to watch out for.

A full Radio Listing is available to for the radio lovers out there. To finish of there is a crossword to put your wits up against and win some fantastic prizes this week it is a treadmill so won’t be entering that knowing my luck I would win and would have to exercise – no thanks.

I would also like to add that there is a mailbag page where readers can write in with their comments but I have never paid much attention to this section so I am therefore unable to comment.

All in all it is a good read and an added bonus with it’s in depth TV coverage. I have this on order at the newsagent every week and look forward to catching up on all the stars news as I have always found it to be up to date and fairly accurate.
