Sun Signs" or "Your Stars", popular in magazines and newspapers since the 1930's are a basic form of Astrology that only uses the position of the Sun in your Birth Chart (Horoscope) to glimpse your character and coming events. Hence this is known as "Sun Sign" Astrology.

If the Sun was in the part of the Zodiac called Aries at the time of your birth, then you are a Sun Sign Aries! Your character though similar to one of the twelve sun signs, will always be unique as a result of who you are and the choices you make. In fact your character as far as Astrology is concerned requires that the position of all "the Planets" (the eight planets in our solar system plus the moon and sun) are calculated. Imagine that these planets are the ingredients that can make up a human being, they can all be added in many different permutations and quantities

So a professional Astrologer takes into account the position of all these "planets" in your Birth Chart in a Personal Consultation, using only your time, date and place of birth. This greater accuracy focuses on your character, problems, and forecasts your future choices and best most timely solutions.

It is worth noting that though many Astrologers use only the "Planets", some Astrologers take into account the position of Asteroids and some fixed stars, but the use of the words "Your Stars" is something of a misnomer apart from the Sun which is of course our Star and the zodiac which is made up of stars. Just keep in mind that the important relationships are between the planets and the zodiac wheel.

what is a Horoscope ?

A Horoscope is really a diagram that depicts the position of the planets in relation to the earth at the time of birth of an individual, or even the time of a specific event. Each planet has meaning, as do each of the signs. These meanings and their interpretation is an art that is several thousand years old and based on long observation. The position of the planets has also been subject to long observation and can be predicted for past present and future.

A Horoscope is also often called a Birth Chart; and the word "Horoscope" is used in popular culture to refer to the sun sign or star sign text predicting feelings and a period of future events that is printed by newspapers, magazines and web sites.

This text has been interpreted by an Astrologer who will draw a Horoscope (Birth Chart) relating to a period of time and a particular Sun Sign.
Often a specialised Computer program will have been used that calculates the position of all the planets and their inter-relationships, sometimes the program is used to directly work out the text of the "Horoscope". But this will never be as accurate, gifted or human as a real Astrologer doing the interpretation, but its a damned useful tool when you have a lot of work!

how can it be accurate ?

The positions of the planets at any time way back in history, currently or at virtually any time in the future can be predicted with amazing accuracy because they follow long observed and regular cycles.

It is the position of the planets and their inter-relationships that is used to form an interpretation of their meaning, this is where all Astrologers use long passed down information and a certain degree of intuition.

I believe that it is the intuition part of Astrology that bears striking resemblance to other forms of divination such as Tarot, Psychic Readings and Chinese Astrology, these are but the tools, it is the human with the skills who does all of the really amazing things!

The compatibility's are general for each sign, again bear in mind that it takes a full set of planets to "flavour" both individuals, and it is the full interaction of these two sets of planets and charts that determines whether two individuals "get on" in love, friendship and work.

Your opposite sign is literally the sign opposite to you on the Zodiac wheel, but that personality is also someone you can learn a lot from, someone you may not completely see eye to eye with, but who in a strange way is an other side to you and what you can become, they are as the Chinese would say YIN to your YANG.
So you are beginning to see that everything works in circles, and there is much truth in the old saying: "what goes around, comes around" .
