I'd kind of given up on women's mags. Fallen into that mid 30s gap, I guess, grown out of Elle around the same time as my first job, determined not to grow into Good Housekeeping, and frankly understood enough about sex and the dangers of sun tan ever to want to buy 'She' or 'New Woman' again.
InStyle was a bit like discovering the digestive did have a chocolate side, after all. It does the fashion stuff, really well, in a catalogue style. It does celeb pics too, but looks at the dresses and the people in them rather than their trite opinions or charming (God help us) homes. There's health and beauty info that's genuinely new and informative and just enough intelligent features. Unusually, they seem to have realise that women are capable of reading features in broadsheets and that they don't need 'soft' versions with big pictures in their mags.
