Advantages: Classy feel
Disadvantages: Lots of adverts, Lack of features
I initially read the American version of instyle, and i got very.......VERY excited! Except at the time it wasnt sold in the U.K. Then they started selling it in the U.K, and i got REAAAAAAALLY excited. Being a HUUUUUUGE fan of 'LOOKS' magazine i thought 'Instyle' would be another magazine that i could i could get shamefully obsessed and over-excited about buying every month. Sadly, i don't. Put simply, it just has no content! It costs £2.70 (50p more than 'LOOKS') and for that you get a couple of pictures of celebrities at whatever grammy/oscar/music awards are nearest that month, pages and pages and pages of horrible HORRIBLE clothes that no-one can afford and (wouldnt want to), and if you're really really lucky, a celebrity interview (i say celebrity.... but we're talking Gail Porter and Claire Sweeny) So you're wondering how come the magazine is so thick right? well, a few annoying flyers, lots of perfume magazines, and this month, a 10 page advert for GAP. Some features are intersting, this month they have pictures of models without makeup on, then the same picture of them with makeup on, and the makeup artist (woman who runs 'Nars') explaining how you can achieve that look in very simple terms ( i was expecting names of products, blending tips, the best way to apply mascara etc, but directions are more along the 'apply mascara, use a red lipstick' lines), but these are few and far between. If you're looking for a fashion magazine that is upmarket, with expensive clothes, older celebrities, a serious tone, and lots and lots of adverts, this magazine aint so bad, but if like me you want few adverts, lots of interesting features, pictures of plenty celebs for inspiration, and a sense of fun, then i would recommend 'LOOKS' magazine instead.
