Advantages: Covers a variety of media, not just the ubiquitous watercolour

Disadvantages: No special guidance for absolute beginners, but otherwise no real disadvantages

"International Artist" comes from the same stable as Pastel International. However, whereas the latter is dedicated to one medium, the other displays artworks from all round the world, in various paint formats. One artist may be an acrylic expert; another using gouache; someone else has developed a personal technique with watercolour and pencils;
there will be something different in each issue.

You can have 6 issues per year for £19, again with each issue offering a generous number of wonderful full-colour pages, average 140. It is also available from newsagents, although I expect you will have to ask specially for it.

Like the pastel magazine, this is not a beginners' step-by-step guide to leisure painting. It will suit long-term, established amateurs and professionals, who are seeking inspiration and fresh ideas for their own work. The featured artists describe their works and how they
developed their ideas into complete paintings; thoughts, feelings, problems and their general approaches.
Advertisers are international and the presence of the Internet easily allows for overseas purchase of materials, some of which are hard to get in the UK.
