Internet Advisor - Great for Internet Virgins (Internet Advisor)
Member Name: Feathers
Advantages: It's a great starting place for 'newbies'. Disadvantages: Not aimed at the experienced web user.
I bought Internet Advisor regularly when I first got my computer. It is a friendly and accessible magazine which will appeal to any beginner who has felt a little bit daunted by the numerous PC magazines in WHSmiths. It is definately aimed at the beginner, the style is simplistic and it is written in jargon-free English. Internet Advisor covers basic topics such as how to connect to the internet, how to use email and how to surf the internet. There are numerous sections listing the addresses of recommended websites. These are divided into subject matter as well as suitability for different age groups etc. Most issues come with a CD Rom containing programmes which are designed to enhance your internet experience. I would recommend this magazine to anyone who is nervous of using the internet. I imagine most people would stop buying it after a while though. The CD Roms become useless as you discover that you have all the programmes you need or are wary of filling up your hard drive with more junk. The lists of websites are handy for the beginner, but I now prefer to find new sites through surfing or on the recommendations of other people. Summary: |
