Advantages: Occasional good free gifts, good reviews of music

Disadvantages: Too many repetitive features, same old bands included every week

I first turned to Kerrang! magazine after seeing the mainstream bias against the sort of music the magazine specialises in.
I used to buy it every week but soon found that the format and content of the magazine was becoming repetitive and leaning more towards a gossip rap for rock and metal bands.
The main features of the magazine usually include letters from readers, reviews of the latest gigs, interviews and features on specific bands as well as reviews of the latest albums to be released and free posters of artists.

I have on occasion also bought an issue with stickers, a free CD and even a calendar for 2008. For £2.20 it's not really that bad but I have since found other magazines that may cost a little more but cover a whole lot of different artists and genres than the 'in bands' Kerrang! seem to use to fill up the magazine week after week.

Whilst I have nothing against the majority of groups covered in the magazine it does get tiring to see every little bit of news on Pete Wentz's life documentated within its pages and a lot of bands that are doing really well are not mentioned at all instead Kerrang! chooses to give up page space to Panic At The Disco or the such for the 500th time. A lot of bands being covered in recent months are also a lot more pop than usual. Whilst I like a lot of the pop genre I do find it a bit silly that a magazine that prides itself on being 'the UK's best selling rock and metal magazine' is ignoring the said genre in favour or more pop-orientated acts.

The reviews section is usually the least biast section of each issue giving you a chance to explore the latest releases on the rock/metal scene and through this I have come across a load of great new bands I otherwise would never have heard it.
Basically Kerrang! is good if you're a teenager but as you get older it seems to become less of a need to buy it every week. I have switched to Rock Sound as I find it a much better magazine for the price it charges.

Summary: Kerrang! has been invaded by aliens from the planet 16 year old girl
