Advantages: varied rock tastes, sense of humour, great coverage
Disadvantages: quite expensive when you buy it every week
In England, it is a well known mag, which any budding rock fan (from any genre of rock) will appreciate. I will try to guide you through all the aspects, expected from this magazine. ARTICLES - The articles in this magazine are quite balanced and the journalists really know what they are talking about. Although, rock can vary from anything from Radiohead to Cradle of Filth, each journalist balances their opinion, to be non- biased and to give an overall view of a band or their music. Their writing has quite a high level of wit and humour, which also makes them a pleasure to read as well as reading up on the new bands, or you old favourites. They also make sure they have grabbed the readers attention and is informative as well as not boring anyone to death. Their writing is also clever and you also feel quite impressed with the news you give you. COVERAGE - The coverage is extremely impressive and they cover every type of genre of rock such as grunge, ska-punk, metal, gothic, indie and whatever type of rock you like, you will like this magazine because they aren't arrogant and believe that there is only one type of rock. They give equal opportunity to all bands and cover each, in as much depth, as any other one. They also manage to get great articles or interviews, with extremely famous rockers, new, old , legendary and all sorts. They had usually told the public about good upcoming bands, and had very often made it big, when other magazines were slating them for being 'too heavy' or 'too soft.' PUBLIC PARTICIPATION - There are great competitions in this mag, which have great rocker related prizes, including cds videos, and all sorts of things. There is also the letters page, which can be quite amousing with a lot of rants and raves and praises as well about lots of topics. There is also column for people to meet with similar interests and readers are always encouraged for
feedback. ADVERTS - I know this may sound extremely sad, but the adverts are great as well! I mean, they advertise LOADS of gigs, in which is so healpful, along with rocker shops and other things, in which you would never see advertised anywhere else. There are quite a few but you don't feel cheated with the amount that is in there. PICTURES - The photo shoots are great and really compliment the articles in the right places. They have great posters and throughout the mag is a very colourful display of loads of celeb rockers. In conclusion I believe that this is a must read magazine and you will have to read it to believe it! I hope I have swayed you thoughts to read this mag. Post a comment if you have read it to agree!
