Advantages: gig dates
Disadvantages: its poop
I used to be a fully-fledged Kerrang fanatic but alas, I am no longer. It has lost its edge. Kerrang used to be a magazine for the real heavy metal enthusiasts and used to bring brilliant reviews of new yet often unheard off and un-commercial bands. Unfortunately like so many once great bands (Offspring, Limp Basket, etc) they have sold out on us and now really trying to retail to the teeny rockers who only knew rock existed because the mission impossible theme got into the charts. Although Kerrang is probably making more money out of their new audience it is no good for anyone above the age of twelve and with any real taste in metal. I can say for Kerrang that it does help new and upcoming bands with the scum scene (advertisement for them and their gigs) but it now leaves a lot to be desired. Perhaps mentioning some off the good old stuff (and I don’t mean AC DC) I know they want to cater to a wide audience it just appears to be an audience I am not a part of anymore which is unfortunate as I used to look forward to reading its in depth articles with some of my favourite bands. The only time I ever pick up Kerrang anymore is to look at gig dates but that’s it!
