Advantages: cheap, weekly

Disadvantages: sometimes poor bands

I have bought Kerrang! magazine every week for over a year now and think it is cool and good value for money. Lately though, I think the quality has decreased sadly. The best things in it are sometimes the main interview depending on the band, some of the small features like mini interviews (also depending on the band, live reviews and Pub Talk - a small interview with a member of a band, asking odd questions to finish the magazine off.

This magazine contains interviews, facts and news from punk, rock and pop-punk bands from a range of countries, generally quite famous, some just getting popular. The front cover picture is of the main featured band who are interviewed inside over 4-5 A4 pages, sometimes about the release of a new album or a tour or anything. Also on the front, a few details of the other features of the issue are mentioned.

The price of the magazine is great value for money: only £1.90 (slowly increasing... sneaky kerrang) for everything you need to know (pretty much). Sometimes issues disapoint me but i suppose the writers must entetain their full audience of rock fans and put info. on bands i don't particually like sometimes.

Generally, pages 2-10 are used for News, where readers are told all the latest topics bands have been up to. There are one or two adverts spread about and around page 11, Kerrang TV video chart and Readers Decks are features in which the top 20 videos for the TV channel for the week are listed and reader write in to say their 3 most listened to albums of that moment. The main interview starts about a quater of the way through the book and next there are some short interviews of only one or two pages. There's a Kerrang ringtones page usually, some more adverts, then the Live reviews which are cool because they tell you their opinion on how good a band was live and how well the set was carried out.

Small reviews on albums to be released soon are useful too as sometimes I haven'
t heard of the bands so I can consider checking them out and also the same for the singles reviews. In some cases, I ignore the reviews: my opinion on bands won't be changed by someone who may not even like their genre of music. But I do read them and take them into consideration as they may say something interesting.

A short list of aroud 15 albums that will be out soon along with their release date are written in a small table on the corner of a page near the back which is helpful along with £2 vouchers for recent album released at Virgin Megastore shops.

Adverts for gigs are in the back section of this along with order numbers and dates which I always enjoy looking at and checking if their are any bands I like touring. The Out There column is a list of destination where bands are playing so you can look up your local area and find out whos there!

The regulars round up the magazine like the Feedback area. Here, readers... well... 'feedback'. They can write in to say what they think about anything to do with rock music! It rules! And to top it off, the letter of the week gets a prize! There's a small, funny cartoon strip called Pandoro which always makes me laugh and there is a small addds page which is quite good.

There is ocasionally free gifts like compilation CDs, DVDs, the other day there was a choclate bar, a video of videos from Kerrang! TV and much more.

If you are interested in rock, punk-rock or pop-punk music that is not too specified, I would recomend you to buy this. Atleast buy it once maybe, just to see what you think, it isn't very much and you never know, you may find you wanna continue to purchase it every week! Thanks for reading.

I only ever buy Kerrang if there's a band on the cover that I'm interested in, otherwise I don't usually bother.
