Advantages: Excellent gig reviews, Great source of gig info, Entertaining to read
Disadvantages: Can be rare
I began reading Kerrang about two years ago now after it was recommended to me by one of my friends. I have collected around 100 copies of the magazine now (sad I know) and all 100 have been an excellent read. Every issue, which is released every Wednesday, is cram packed with excellent band and tour news, photo?s facts and gossip etc? Although some information is sometimes hard to locate due to it being in very small writing in columns up and down some pages, it is still there, and can be found if you read the entire magazine. In every issue of Kerrang, they display adverts and banners of upcoming gigs of bands featured in Kerrang, and where they?re playing, how much ticket price is etc? This section of the magazine is my favourite, because as mentioned in other ops I have written, going to gigs is one of my favourite pastimes. The week after most gigs have happened, by well-known and recognized bands, they always have a live report of the gig, including some live shots of the band in action. The gig is given a rating based on K?S as follows: K = Bollocks KK = Average KKK = Good KKKK = Blinding KKKKK = Classic So far, I?ve only seen one band that has got a full KKKKK for their live show that I was at, and that is Black Sabbath. Well deserved. This same rating system is used to give rating to all upcoming album releases. All major releases (from large bands) are given half a page to a full page review of their upcoming release, weeks before it?s released in the shops, with a full run-down of what the album is like Occasionally Kerrang give away cd,?s videos and large posters. The most common give-away are cd?s, which are released at the rate of approximately two or three every year. One such cd I have is titled ?The Best Of 2000? and contains the following tracks ? Amen ? ?Motorcade Horizon? At The Drive In ? ?Pattern Against User? Monster Magnet ? ?All Sho
ok Out? QOTSA ? ?Leg Of Lamb? The Hellacopters ? ?Heart Without Home? Reef ? ?I Do Not Know What They Will Do? Cold ? ?Send in The Clowns? Muse ? ?Sunburn? Placebo ? ?Haemoglobin? Bloodhound Gang ? ?Magna Cum Nada? Blink 182 ? ?Dumpweed (Live)? Glassjaw ? ?Pretty Lush? Kitte ? ?Charlotte? Pitchshifter ? ?Forget The Facts? One Minute Silence ? ?16 Stone Pig? Sona Fariq ? ?We Be On Fire? (Hed)PE ? ?Waiting To Die? Napalm Death ? ?Necessary Evil? This CD was released by Kerrang to show their all time favourite bands and tracks of 2000. This was released towards the end of 2000. Towards the beginning of 2001, Kerrang released another CD, entitled ? ?Incoming? to illustrate the new tracks of bands coming in 2001 The track listing is as follows: Linkin Park ? ?With You? Nothingface ? ?Bleeder? Downer ? ?Flex? Mudvayne ? ?Nothing To Gein? Lostprophets ? ?Shinobivsdragonninja? Vast ? ?Blue? Sunna ? ?Grape? Lights ? ?Back? Miocene ? ?Fits Like That? Crackout ? ?Breakout? Powderfinger ? ?Like A Dog? Grand Theft Audio ? ?Drugs And Girls? 28 Days ? ?The Bird? Speedealer ? ?We Are Diseased? Sugarcoma ? ?Bed Of Dolls? Ill Nino ? ?Nothings Clear? The only complaint I have with Kerrang is the discontinuation of their free poster feature every week. Every issue, they used to give out a free poster or two of bands featured in the magazine, which I always used to pin up on my wall. At £1.80, it's easily affordable every week. Apart from that, I give Kerrang, in its own rating system, a full KKKKK!!! Kerrang ? Life is Loud!
