Advantages: lots of fashion pages
Disadvantages: More pictures than actual stories
This is a fairly new magazine, having only came out a few years ago. LOOK is a fashion and celebrity magazine, which comes out weekly, whereas most other fashion mags are monthly. I used to buy the magazine when it first came out, but stopped because my magazine buying habit in general was becoming expensive, and because I felt that the magazine was often quite thin, and filled with lots of pictures and not much reading material. I recently went into Boots to pick up a few magazines and found their selection that day wasn't brilliant, and LOOK was one of the only ones that appealed to me. I noticed that since I last bought it, the magazine seems to be thicker and have a lot more content, so it has obviously improved somewhat over time.
~Content~
Celebrities and Fashion is what they promise, and that's pretty much all you get, with the exception of a few real life stories in the middle pages. If you want a magazine to sit down and read about serious issues, this one is probably not for you. If you're interested in the lives of Britney Spears and Cheryl Cole, then you've come to the right place.
The celebrity stories featured are pretty much what you would find in any other magazine, such as Heat or Star, at the moment Britney and Cheryl are taking up most of the pages, as both have their private lives splashed all over the press at the moment. As well as the articles on celebrity love lives and breakdowns, there is the odd celeb interview, and of course celebrity fashion. This covers a lot of the magazine - like articles about where to buy items similar to those seen on the stars, fashion 'experts' rating girls out of 10 on their outfits and celebrity 'fashion disasters.'
Although this is a fashion magazine, it mainly revolves around clothes, shoes and accessories and doesn't contain a lot about beauty products, hair or make-up, which I think is somewhere it could improve, although that may be because I am obsessed with beauty products!
A big plus point with this magazine, is that the clothes it features tend to be both wearable and affordable. Often in other magazines, such as Glamour, I will see a coat or something I quite like, then look at the price tag and it will be something ridiculous, like £4,200! Also some magazines tend to feature lots of couture pieces, made for the catwalk, as opposed to things you can wear everyday. LOOK show clothes from mainly high street stores like Topshop and Zara, but also budget stores like Primark and Peacocks.
Although it still has adverts, it does not have anywhere near as many as some of the other glossy mags do. The actual fashion pages are often like adverts in themselves, as there are just pages and pages featuring pictures of clothes - usual broken down into shops - for example one page for Miss Selfridge, one page for River Island etc..
There are also sections for problem pages, horoscopes and one page on Film, TV and DVD reviews.
The magazine comes out weekly, I believe on a Tuesday and costs £1.40 an issue.
I will continue to buy this magazine now and again, especially if I'm planning on going clothes shopping, as it's good for inspiration. On the whole though, I think it's a bit too expensive for me to buy every week, and I think it would be better if it contained more reading material, as opposed to just lots of pictures.
Summary: LOOK fashioon and celebrity magazine
